The importance of emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand, and manage one’s own emotions, as well as those of others. This skill is crucial not only for personal and professional development, but also for building healthy interpersonal relationships. In a society like ours full of change and uncertainty, emotional intelligence plays a particularly important role for young people, parents, teachers, and all citizens.
Young people are in the process of forming their identity and social skills. A high level of emotional intelligence can help them cope with stress, regulate emotions, and build stronger friendships. For example, a young person who knows when they are feeling anxious or nervous before a test can find ways to reduce tension through deep breathing or short breaks. This skill also helps in resolving conflicts with peers, because emotionally intelligent people can easily empathize and understand the perspective of others.
Parents are role models for their children. Those who possess high levels of emotional intelligence can raise their children more effectively, especially in emotionally challenging situations. For example, a parent who understands their child’s stress and frustration after a bad day at school will choose to support, comfort, and calmly discuss solutions rather than get angry. This approach not only strengthens the parent-child relationship, but also helps children learn how to manage their emotions.
Teachers also play a key role in shaping the emotional health of students. A teacher with high levels of emotional intelligence can create a positive and supportive school environment. For example, if a student shows signs of anxiety or sadness, an emotionally aware teacher will be able to respond with understanding and support, rather than ignoring or disciplining them. This builds trust between the student and the teacher and creates an environment where students feel safe to talk openly.
Emotional intelligence is important not only for individuals, but also for the community as a whole. In everyday situations, such as in the workplace or in public spaces, the ability to recognize emotions and respond with empathy can reduce conflict and foster cooperation. For example, in a stressful work environment, an employee who possesses emotional intelligence can reduce conflict by calmly expressing their views and actively listening to others. This leads to better relationships and more effective problem solving.
Emotional intelligence is a key factor for personal and professional success in our society today. It is essential for young people in their development, for parents in raising children, for teachers in creating positive school environments, and for all citizens in building a better and more solidary society where citizens will feel respected and will experience a pleasant environment wherever they turn. Investing in the development of emotional intelligence is an investment in a better quality of life for everyone.
The development of emotional intelligence through trainings, workshops and webinars is of great importance for improving interpersonal relationships and personal well-being. These forms provide easy access to practical skills for managing emotions and resolving conflicts, also available online. By regularly participating in trainings, workshops and webinars, people become better for themselves, more successful in communicating and dealing with stressful situations. At the end of October, In Association will organize a webinar on this topic, for which you will receive additional information. In the meantime, you can find more information on In Association’s Facebook profile.
